ABOUT BRUISED REED STUDIO:

Bruised Reed Studio is founded by Leah Jeffery in order to expose her scrap metal art.

Ever since she was young, she enjoyed art and making things with her hands. In high school she started looking into different trades. She signed up for a welding class her senior year and found it amazing. Throughout the semesters she finished her work quickly and used all her free time in class to work on different projects. Inspired by scrap metal artists she saw on social media, she decided to make an animal – a Great Horned Owl. She found she really enjoyed making sculptures. Now combining her love of both art and welding, she explores creating different birds and animals from reclaimed metal. According to her, making stuff is awesome. Making stuff from junk is awesomer. Making cool stuff from junk is the awesomest.

There is something about taking what was discarded and giving it new life, which intrigues her. The process of finding different metal pieces of “trash” and seeing the potential of it being used in a sculpture and then trying to accurately create a sculpture that captures the life and the attitude of an animal is a process that has her mind constantly working. The process is incredibly fun. When all the pieces come together to create the sculpture, she hopes to instill depth so that the viewer may see the sculpture as a whole but on closer inspection be able to pick apart the varying odds and ends of the piece.

Finally, Leah Jeffery shows us that eternal masterpieces can be created from the scrap.
