Evolito was spun out in 2021 by YASA, the world-leading pioneer of automotive axial-flux electric motors acquired by Mercedes-Benz in July 2021, to exclusively commercialise YASA’s next-generation electric motor technology and IP for the rapidly-growing aerospace market. Evolito is funded by a portfolio of private investors including WayPoint Capital and Oxford Science Enterprises (OSE).

The company brings over a decade of experience in delivering & scaling electric propulsion technology into the EV passenger car market where customisation, quality and cost are critical. Thanks to this experience Evolito understands the unique demands of the aerospace market. YASA partnered with Rolls-Royce to build and fly the world’s fastest electric plane, providing the three axial-flux electric motors that power the Spirit of Innovation aircraft.

Each of the three motors powering the Spirit of Innovation provides 790Nm of peak torque, 200kW peak power. All within an individual axial length of just 98mm. The motor design has been customised to make installation easier and enhance the motors’ mechanical strength and rigidity. The three motors enable the plane’s propellers to continuously deliver more than 500hp and the blades to spin at a low enough RPM for a stable and almost silent ride, while allowing the aircraft to reach speeds of 300 miles per hour. All this, with greater than 97% energy efficiencies and zero emissions.
