Kaethe Butcher was born in Leipzig in East Germany in 1990. As a child she loved to watch old Disney movies and to read different western comics. During her teenage years her interest shifted more towards Manga, from which her love for the delicateness of lines emerged as well as reading lots of good books. Naturally she was drawn towards drawings, words and storytelling and spend a lot of time sketching and telling stories in a Manga style. Being shy and not outgoing made her engage with her own feelings more and let her drift away into a world of exuberant emotions and thoughts, that she needed to get off of her head via drawing.

However, the urge of illustrating different feelings through drawing girls in intimate moments only emerged during her Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design in 2013 in Berlin, when she met one special girl. Retrospective, the relationship with this girl was a decisive turning point in Butcher’s life. It led her to a better understanding of herself, the importance of illustration for her and ultimately resulted in developing her artistic style and themes she is known for: Delicate graphite pencil lines intertwined with black areas, showing sensitive yet strong girls.

In 2016 Butcher moved to London to study her Master in Illustration at UAL Camberwell. She decided to stay longer in London and now lives and works there as a freelance illustrator. Her love for good books never vanished and she illustrated book covers for publishers like Penguin Randomhouse US, HarperCollins and Simon&Schuster. Her works can be contemplated in her website.
